Our Story

The facts about life after the UK care system are bleak: 1 in 5 homeless people have been in care and 1 in 5 care leavers go on to spend time in prison. Once discharged from local authority care, these 16-25 year old young adults are effectively on their own, often with very limited resources.

Our ultimate aim is to be able to offer a choice of quilted ‘hug’ to every Care Leaver as they begin their independent lives. To do just that may take us some time, and exactly how we achieve that is evolving year on year, but we are working as fast as we can towards that goal.

Your donations, whether one off, or regular monthly giving, however large or modest, help us by providing a steady stream of income to pay for some of our inevitable costs, such as wadding, thread, or costs associated with distribution.

Your support means we can continue providing quilty hugs to those who need them most.

Thank you.

Quilts for Care Leavers (Registered Charity Number 1207069) are a community of volunteer sewers & quilters making unique patchwork quilts of a size to provide a hug, & to bring some comfort to young people leaving the "care" of their local authority.

In 2024 Q4CL distributed over 1600 quilts. These are much needed & appreciated by our Care Leavers. BUT we need funds to continue our work and meet our goal of an additional 1000 quilts in 2026. Will you help us with a one off or regular donation?
